Choosing the right collar depends on many factors.
Each Collar is different but below is the main points to
consider when purchasing a collar
When you hold a
button down it will either give your dog a continuous stimulation or momentary
stimulation. Choosing which type of stimulation you want to use for the
dominant control is really up to you.
Continuous stimulation: When you hold the button
down for 10 seconds your dog will get stimulation about 9 seconds.
Momentary stimulation: When you hold the button
down for 10 seconds your dog will get stimulation for 1 second. If you want to
give your dog more than 1 second of stimulation, you will need to press the
button, then release, press the button, than release, and so on.
Some trainers or owners use the
audible tone as a praise tone or a warning tone. This again depends on what
training style you use or your trainer uses. Some trainers don't even use the
tone.
Contact Points: There are 2 different types of
contact points offered. Short and long. The collars with the fixed length,
non-removable points use the short points. The breed of dog and fur length
should dictate which points to use.
Short points: Ideal for thinner coated dogs:
Pointers, some Brittany, some Labradors, and so on
Long Points: Ideal for thicker coated dogs: Golden
Retrievers, Most Labrador Retrievers, Setters, Brittany, and so on.
